Tips Important Tips

Ajloun is much cooler than Amman during summer, especially in the evenings.

Bring a light jacket even during warm seasons because nights can become chilly.

Wear comfortable shoes because many places include walking uphill or through forests.

Weekends can become crowded with local visitors, especially Fridays.

Ajloun is perfect for nature lovers and travelers who want peaceful scenery away from busy cities.

At North Bus Station, some taxi drivers may tell you there are no buses to Ajloun, that the bus you found is not going there, or that it will take two or three hours before it leaves. This is sometimes done to encourage visitors to take a taxi instead.

Ask normal local people which bus goes to Ajloun. They will usually point you to the correct bus.

Castle Ajloun Castle

Ajloun Castle is one of the most famous historical landmarks in Jordan. It was built during the time of Saladin to protect the region from invasions.

The castle offers incredible panoramic mountain views.

Where the bus drops you off, the uphill walk to the castle is really tough.

You can take a taxi up the hill for 1 JOD; do not pay more than that.

Late afternoon usually offers softer light and cooler walking temperatures.

You can explore towers, tunnels, courtyards, and old defensive areas.

Bring water because climbing around the castle can be tiring in summer.

Forest Nature & Forests

Ajloun is famous for its forests and green landscapes, something many visitors do not expect when thinking about Jordan.

Ajloun Forest Reserve is one of the best places for hiking and relaxing.

You can find beautiful walking trails surrounded by pine and oak trees.

Spring is the greenest season and usually offers comfortable hiking temperatures.

Autumn also looks magical with orange and golden colors across the mountains.

Bus Transportation

From Amman

From Amman, order Uber from your place to North Bus Station, then take the Ajloun bus.

Pay the bus driver 1.30 JOD; do not pay more than 1.50 JOD.

Buses start around 7 AM, and there are no buses after 3 PM, so make sure to leave before 3 PM.

There are no public buses on Friday.

Travel time from Amman is around 1.5 hours.

Driving Tip

Roads are mountainous, so drive carefully during rainy weather.

Time Best Time to Visit

Spring, March–May, is the absolute best season because of the green scenery.

Summer is pleasant and much cooler than southern Jordan.

Winter can become cold, foggy, and rainy.

Autumn offers beautiful mountain colors and peaceful weather.

Local Local Culture

People in Ajloun are known for being welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is calmer and more traditional compared to Amman.

Respect local villages and private farms when exploring nature areas.

Dress modestly in smaller villages.

Many locals enjoy helping tourists with directions and recommendations.
