Because it is less than one hour from Amman, Madaba makes an excellent day trip or a relaxing overnight stop before visiting the Dead Sea.
Move Transportation from Amman
There are three easy ways to reach Madaba from Amman.
Option 1 — Public Bus
Order an Uber or Careem from your accommodation to North Bus Station, also known as Tabarbour.
From there, take the bus to Madaba.
Option 2 — Uber or Careem
You can take an Uber or Careem directly from your accommodation in Amman to Madaba.
This is the easiest option if you prefer comfort or are traveling with luggage.
Option 3 — Rent a Car
Renting a car gives you the most flexibility, especially if you also plan to visit Mount Nebo, the Baptism Site, or continue to the Dead Sea.

Route Visiting Mount Nebo & the Baptism Site
If you are in Madaba Visitor Center and want to visit Mount Nebo, you have two main options.
Uber or Careem
A one-way trip usually costs around 10 JOD.
If you also plan to visit the Baptism Site, I recommend making an agreement with the Uber driver before starting the journey.
Usually 25–30 JOD is enough for the driver to take you to Mount Nebo, continue to the Baptism Site, and return you to Madaba Visitor Center.
Taxi + Hitchhiking
Another option is to take a taxi one way and hitchhike on the return journey.
Hitchhiking is common in this area and is generally considered safe.
Sometimes police officers stop vehicles to check that drivers are not charging hitchhikers for the ride. If a driver asks for payment after picking you up as a hitchhiker, they may receive a fine.
As always, use your own judgment and only accept rides when you feel comfortable.
